The Lekwungen Charitable Society logo is a powerful representation of the organization's values, mission, and connection to Lekwungen heritage. Designed by Eva George, a Songhees Nation member and Lekwungen descendant, the logo embodies the wisdom, strength, and unity that define the Society’s work in revitalizing Lekwungen culture, language, and traditions. The circle encompassing the logo is a foundational and sacred symbol in our cultures, representing continuity and wholeness, family and community, protection and inclusion - it is a universal representation of unity.
The logo features an eagle and two wolves, both sacred animals in Coast Salish teachings, symbolizing a harmonious balance between earth and sky, action and vision, strength and wisdom.
The eagle, soaring high above, represents spiritual insight, higher knowledge, and the pursuit of freedom. It signifies leadership, foresight, and the connection to the divine, guiding the Society’s mission to uplift and preserve Lekwungen heritage.
The wolf, known for its loyalty, courage, and connection to the pack, represents community strength, resilience, and grounded leadership. It reflects the Society’s dedication to bringing people together to protect and celebrate Lekwungen culture. Two wolves facing each other represent both the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations united in their heritage.
